Sennowe Sawmill
River Wensum |
c.1905
|
Little is so far known about Sennowe sawmill. It was probably built in the early 1900s and used a large exterior waterwheel to power the sawbench. |
I think it was constructed by Baron Victor Barretto, between the years 1901 - 1908, which was in the time that my father was apprenticed at the "Farmers Foundry" Great Ryburgh. |
O. S. Map 1904 |
The above map clearly shows the original course of the River Wensum before it was artificially straightened. The river had meandered both to the east and the west of the new cut and the parish boundary followed its original course. |
