Beetley postmill possibly stood near Beetley school on Hungry Hill. The mill is mentioned in a document held at the Norfolk Record Office, where it is stated Windmill in Beetley granted in mortmain 1310. This was probably to an ecclesiastical body as an unalienable possession, meaning that they should be unable to dispose of it. |
A triangle of land at Nat Grid Ref TF95571858 was formerly known as Mill Pightle and was mentioned in the Award of Inclosure at Beetley - 23rd February 1776 where on page 16 regarding the eighth public highway it is stated Beetley to Little Bittering From the north corner of Cursons close west to Fakenham to Dereham Road, north 60 yards to corner of W. Reeves' Mill Pightle, west along Roughall Lane, to west corner of Mrs. Howard's Thoroughfare close. |
Ring Ditch. Immediately to the south of this is a dark oval patch - probably natural - and then a cross-shaped mark. This usually indicates a post-mill site, so it is at least a strong possibility that the ring ditch is a moated mill-mound. |
