Brotford postmill was mentioned in Edward J. Kealey's book Harvesting the Air - Windmill Pioneers in Twelfth Century England. It is mentioned that Brotford mill given to Broholm Priory by Robert Fitz John some time before 1229. The location of Brotford and Broholm Priory are unknown.
