The postmill in Sandy Lane appears to have been worked by William Bitten from the time it was built c.1842 until he died in 1891. The mill could have been open trestle as the 1883 map shows four piers as opposed to a roundhouse.

No. 179 was the site of the mill but it was not mentioned for the tithe award. At this time William Bitten was living in a cottage in the town.
