| Gressenhall was recorded as having a postmill in 1272-3. |
Dr. Thomas Buttes leased Gt._Ryburgh watermill to John Warner, who turned out to be a busie, troblesome, quarreling and such a disordered man that in the first year of Queen Mary he discharged him of his lease to the intent that he would rid the town of him, and since that time the said John Warner has continued in Bittering.

It may well be that the Bittering referred to in the above quote was the postmill that stood in Bittering at that time.

Robert (de Stutevill) married Joan daughter & heir of William Talbot of Gainesburgh in Lincolnshire & died seized of this town held of the Earl Warren by 2 knights fees in the first year of King Edward I viz. a capital messuage, a water_mill, a windmill, 200 acres of pasture, a KAR etc. all valued at £19. 3. 4d.
