Marlingford
Honingham Road towermill |
Marlingford tower windmill was a five storey mill that used four patent sails set on an iron windshaft and was turned to wind with a fantail. In 1878 the mill was powered by common sails and in 1879 the mill was using three pairs of stones, the largest of which was 5' 2". |
Although every care and effort has been made to provide correct information, it is not clear from the available records as to which miller was at which mill in the early years. If any viewer can throw any further light by supplying additional information, it would be gratefully received. Information on the Mill was very interesting and the 1881 family information
happens to be my Family Tree from my Mother's side; her mother was Hedley's daughter.
James, Jane and the boys moved to Kingston Upon Hull in the late 1880's
settled and worked at the earls Mills in Hull and
lived in Earls terrace which I believe was tied Housing Their
James became Master joiner and foreman, Hedley a Joiner and William a
Stonemason .
Jane's Family Name was Spicer and I wondered if she had any connection to the Mills as her family were Farming in the area. It's great to find more bits to fit the jigsaw will look forward to visiting the area next year. Colin Coxon - 16th December 2007 |
