Mill Farm postmill |
c.1910 |
North Tuddenham Mill Farm postmill had a two storey buck with a leanto porch and stable door, that was set on a single storey roundhouse. The four double shuttered patent sails, struck by a lever, drove 2 pairs of French burr stones and an oat crusher. The outermost pair of sails had 6 bays of 3 shutters and the inner pair had the same configuration with the addition of a single bay of 2 shutters. The mill was turned to wind by a six bladed fantail set on a carriage. |

The mill had 4 double shuttered spring sails containing 6 bays of 3 and 1 bay of 2 on the innermost sails. The six bladed fantail along with a sack chute were on the ladder, which led up to a leanto porch. The two storey mill buck contained 2 French burr stones and an oat roller. The two doored roundhouse was brick tarred. |

Sydney Herbert Fayers and Frederick Walter Fayers formed the partnership of Fayers Brothers in October 1903. They replaced the portable steam engine with a Tangye oil engine c.1919 but a few years later, in 1923, the mill was dismantled. In 1925 the Fayers Brothers were listed as corn factors and they retired in 1930. Frederick Walter Fayers died in 1936 and Sydney Herbert Fayers died in 1968 aged 90. |

In 1984, the single storey roundhouse was still in situ with a modern roof and was being used as a store. It stood 8 feet high and was 24 feet in diameter with two doors opposite each other to allow access wherever the sails were turning. |
