Wall anchors on the derelict Mill House were removed as the house was renovated in 1971. These were marked I.C. - John Clements. |
My grandfather occupied this mill from 1904 - 1908. He was Frederick Ketteringham (August. 1861 - March 1942) He was a brother of Albert Ketteringham (b. Sept. 1858) who operated the Wramplingham_mill. Their mother was a Maria Littleproud (1826-1903), her father was born at Cranworth in 1800 but I do not know if they were connected to any of the Littleprouds that were millers.
Family legend has it that my grandfather could not make it pay because of the struggle to get payment from the farmers. Unfortunately I do not have any photographs or paper work to confirm the above information. My mother (she was born in 1900) lived at the mill in Shipdham and we paid a visit to the Mill House in Mill Road shortly before she died in 1993. She spent some time at Wramplingham_Mill after 1908 and she often spoke of visiting Cranworth.
After the mill her parents had a Laundry in the Barford area, then took on the village shop in Marlingford for 30 years from about 1920.Brenton A. Howard - 11th June 2007
