NORWICH BANKRUPTCY COURT. Friday. (18th)
re HERBERT WILLIAM FYSH, miller and baker of Shipdham. Liabilities £143, Assets £34. Debtor was apprenticed to a watchmaker and at the expiration of this apprenticeship he started in business as a watchmaker and general shopkeeper at Shipdham, when he was about 19. He had no capital and borrowed £12 to commence with. He carried on the business for seven years and then had to give it up ... because of failing health. He left the business in 1894 being in debt at the time. His brother took the business of him and paid him £12 for it. He spent the £12 although he was owing about £32 at the time. He then bought a post windmill with a bakery and dwelling house attached. He gave £180 for it. His father lent him £30 and he gave a mortgage of £150 to a Foresters' Court for the remainder. The mill was out of repair and he spent the £12 he had received from his brother on it. He was in ill health and he knew nothing about milling. ... He did a very small trade, it was better at first, but the last two years had been very bad.
... In March 1895 at the time of the severe gale, the mill was very badly blown about, it cost £40 to repair it ... He bought flour for his bakery and never paid for it and at no time had he paid off any of his debts and he was in arrears with the interest on his mortgage ...

MONDAY'S THUNDERSTORM (16 July)
Shipdham
As a precursor to the thunderstorm the wind blew a perfect hurricane, causing an immense cloud of dust to rise ...
Then came a deluge of rain with lightning and thunder. Towads the end of the storm the electric fluid struck the mill occupied by Mr. C. Rushbrooke, bendiong the guiding rod of one of the sails and quite demolishing the winding fan and throwing the fragment to some distance. Mrs. Rushbrooke, the proprietor's mother, who was near at the time, had a most miraculous escape.
