A windmill was working in Tacolneston in 1321 and had quite possibly been working there for some time.

TACOLNESTON or DOVEDALES MANOR In 1321 Sir Peter (de Uvedale) had the manor at the death of his father; and the inquisition says that it was held of the Earl of Norfolk who held it of the Fitz Walters manor of Helmanhale; that the manor house had 90 acres of land adjoining, woods, groves, a windmill and £8. 10s. yearly quitrents.
