Tunstead postmill stood in Mill Road some way to the north of the village on Tunstead Common, originally known as Waller's Green. It was built by John Mandall after he had been issued a licence by the Tunstead Court on 22nd November 1765. |

To be Reeve to collect the free rents of this Manor for the year ensuing and he is commanded to take that Office upon him and faithfully to execute the same under Pain etc |
Collectors Delivered both Rentals to Thomas Mack the Younger in Court |
And also the Homage of this Court to find and present that John Appleton and John Mack Copyhold Tenants of this Manor are chosen Collectors of the Lords Quit Rents of this Manor for the half year from Michaelmas 1764 to Lady 1765 and are required to pay the same to the Lord etc And that Ann Steel and Thomas Richmond like Copyhold Tenants of this Manor are chosen Collectors of the Copyhold rents for the half year from Lady 1765 to Michaelmas 1765 and are required to pay the same to the Lord etc |
Amerciaments | And the Homage aforesaid say that they have nothing more to present but the Default of the Tenants as well as freeholds are Copyhold in not appearing this Day to do and perform their several suits and services and they do amerce Them so making Default Three Pence each. |
Mandall to Erect a Windmill on the Lords Waste. | At this Court the Lord of the Manor grants Licence to John Mandal of Worstead in the County of Norfolk Miller to erect a Windmill upon the Lords Waste called Wallers Green for the Benefit of the Tenants of the Manor and Leet and to make an Inclosure round the said Mill containing one acre or thereabouts paying for this licence a fine of one Shilling and the yearly Rent of one Shilling afterwards and the said Fine of One shilling is paid accordingly. |

The mill was built by my 4X Great Grandparents, John Mendall (Mandall) (1737-1802) and Martha Gaze (1740-1810). On 22nd November 1765 John was granted a licence to erect a windmill on copyhold land in Tunstead with an enclosure of one acre. The land at Waller's Green was the Lord's Waste/Common Land. The licence was one shilling with an annual rent of one shilling. |
