Upwell postmill actually stood in the Isle of Ely but as Upwell was in Norfolk, the mill has been included on this website.
The mill buck was set on a roundhouse and the sails powered 2 pairs of French burr stones and a flour mill.
A baking office was also run on the site.


CORN MILL
To be Let and Entered upon at Michaelmas next at Upwell in the Isle of Ely, a CORN MILL well furnished with the best French Stones and every other Convenience for doing a large Stroke of Business, situated near a navigable River that communicates to Six Counties, well planted for the Purchase of Wheat and Disposal of Flour; a good Dwelling House near the Mill with Conveniences to carry on the Baking Business; any quantity of Land adjoining the House may be had withy the same.

To be Sold by Auction By Thomas Hudson On Wednesday 30 January 1839 Between the hours of 6 and 8 in the Evening At the Five Bells Inn, Upwell Unless sooner disposed of by Private Contract of which due notice will be given.
All that Old Established CORN WINDMILL
in excellent repair, with Roundhouse, two pair of Stones lying in the breast, Flour Mill and every other necessary apparatus, together with 2 acres (more or less) of superior old Freehold pasture Land adjoining the same, presenting an excellent opportunity to either Miller or Baker for carrying on an extensive Business, being in the centre of the town near a navigable river and surrounded by a numerous population.
N.B. Half the purchase money may remain on the property if required.
