Wacton postmill stood on an ancient site on Wacton Common. The mill was set on a boarded roundhouse, had a leanto porch and was turned to wind with a tailpole. One pair of common sails and one pair of patent sails with 8 bays of 3 shutters were powering a pair of 5 ft. and a pair of 4 ft. French burrs stones in 1820 but by 1861, one pair had been replace by a pair of Peak stones, a flour mill and a cylinder. |

Mrs. I. M. Clegg of Brentwood wrote to Philip Unwin on 28th January 1973 to say that Robert Butler, son of George and Maria Butler of Repps mill was born in 1837. Robert Butler was living in Worstead in December 1865, when he married a farmer's daughter from the village. Mrs. Clegg was Robert's granddaughter by his second wife. |
