Welney smockmill stood to the north of the village on the east side of the Wisbech Road at Welney House Farm.

Part of the valuable freehold Estates of the late Mr. Gabriel Scott Situate at Welney By G. W. Lemon (In the following lots) On Wednesday 28 September 1808 At the Five Bells Inn, Upwell in the county of Norfolk, between the hours of 6 and 8 in the evening Lot 1. All that convenient MESSUAGE or Tenement called Burnt House with the outhouses, yards and appurtenances thereto belonging, also a homestall of rich old pasture ground containing by estimation five acres (be the same more or less) pleasantly situate and being at Welney in the county of Norfolk, together with a newly erected Corn Windmill standing near the said messuage and the going and running geers belonging to and used with the said mill, as the same are now in the tenure of Messrs. John Amerson and John Amerson Jun. N. B. The above is an eligible situation for a miller there being no other corn windmill near.
