Following our telephone conversation a couple of days ago, I promised to let you have some information which I have unearthed referring to the windmill in Whinburgh.
In the Terrier of the Rectory of Whinburgh for 1706, the last sentence of item 13 reads:- "The 2nd piece lyeth part in Westfield and part in Whinburgh and contains one rood thro' the midst whereof the Procession Way leadeth to your ground on which a mill formerly stood."
On the Tithe Map for Whinburgh of 1840, there is a piece of land described as "Part of Mill Hill," which
is situated alongside Procession Way (nowadays known as Barn Lane locally and Field Lane on O.S. maps). As this piece of land is about the highest point in Whinburgh it would seem certain this is where the windmill once stood.
I will enclose with this letter a photocopy of the area concerned, showing where Mill Hill is.
