Thorn Lane
postmill |
A
dwelling-house and Shop, near the wind-mill, St Michael at Thorn were
for sale in 1811. The wind-mill may have been a public house, but on the
other hand it would be a good place to place a mill, being the same escarpment
that the Black Tower on Carrow Hill stands on. A shop near the windmill
on Ber Street was for sale in 1826. This mill is not a confirmed site
altough it is a likely site.
|
There was a pub called the Windmill from 1760 to 1965 at 24 Ber Street.
The origin of the name is not known but may indicate that a windmill stood
there sometime in the mid-eighteenth century or earlier.
