Dickleburgh Whitehorse Road postmill

Dickleburgh had a post mill standing in Whitehorse Road, although this was later renamed Rectory Road. The mill buck, which was tall and narrow, stood on a raised 2 storey roundhouse and had 4 double shuttered patent sails that were struck by rack & pinion. One pair of sails had 8 bays of 3 shutters and the other pair had 7 bays of 3 shutters. The fantail was on the ladder that led to a porch that was set under an extension to the first floor of the buck. |

The above advert relates to Dickleburgh Langmere postmill but has mention of the miller at Rectory Road. |
A few days since as John Ringer, aged 26, was attending the boulting mill, in a windmill belonging to Mr. Francis Bacon, of Dickleburgh, the cogs caught hold of his frock slop, and so entangled him, that he was carried round by the same for 3 hours, in which time he was reduced to a most horrid spectacle. |
John Ringer's brother James was miller at Carleton Rode smockmill in 1836 and died there in February 1844. |

... mill in Rectory Road standing on what was glebe, the Rectory Manor Mill. The Lord of this Manor being the Abbot of Bury St Edmunds. The flint wall can still be seen. |
Very little of the old flint wall remains as it was blown down in a gale about two or three years ago. |
