Old Buckenham Panegryde postmill was built just to the south of the Dam Brigg crossroads, technically in the parish of Banham, not long after the Ringerhose postmill that was just to the north of the crossroads.

The name Panegryde is said to be a corruption of the Norman-French pain (bread) and grince (grind).

There is mention in the Patent & Close Rolls of the 13th & 14th centuries of two windmills in Buckenham, one called Ringerhose & the other Panegryde.
